Thank you to Jenny for writing the story.

Savannah game lodge 18 Sept 2016

Krommellenbog riveSavannah is a good find. This side of Parys...doesn't feel at all far. Pleasant venue with outdoor bar/lapa/pool and a Winter Room, which came in very handy, see below.
A very pretty walk that started along the Kromellenboog River,(Ed: this is the river coming from around Wolvehoek, passing on the west side of Sasolburg.) which, to our pleasant surprise, quite soon joined the Vaal River, which encompassed the rest of the hike. Expansive views of large stretches of water, lots of bird life, some huge bluegums, all absolutely lovely, haak en steekexcept for the fact that the pretty path along the river periodically disappeared and we had to bundu bash through thickets of 'haak en steek' (Ed: see picture of Jenny trying to extract herself from the thorns) up to the easier but less interesting path along the fence which became a bit (!) of a pain - literally my arms and legs are pocked with punctures from the thorns! The hike ended at the Wedding Venue - a large white marquee on the river bank, empty, where we had lunch out of the wind (see Horst's picture) and waited for Patrick to fetch us.
lunch in luxuryWe had a bit of a game drive en route back saw bokkies and buffalo (! Rather bovine looking) and as the day had become progressively colder and colder, we were delighted to retire to the Winter Room for cosy coffee and muffins and interesting chit chat about Mandelbrot Set and fractals and suchlike frivolous subjects!
buffalo I spoke to the nice Savannah lady and told her about our pain and suffering and she has sworn to fix the paths ASAP. They also have four two-man inflatables which gives my tail a wag.
