Kwaggas Pad (23-25/Jan/2009)

Kwaggas01.jpg, 105756 bytesKwaggas Pad has a most delightful camp, clean and tidy and groomed with all comforts (except a fridge which was a bit missed) which I hope you will see from someone's pictures. Interesting hiking with wide views of green and colourful grasslands - wildflowers not in the same abundance as the Cape fynbos, but always a pleasure to find - many koppies - we did them all in a rather stampy mode because of the millions of ants which kept us on the move, and enough features - graves, big trees, viewpoints etc to maintain interest plus LARGE herds of plains game. Excellent mealies in the whole area....a pleasure for us Vrystaaters to see!!!
Kwaggas03.jpg, 105756 bytesThere was a very pretty well-behaved affectionate dog, which I have discovered is a Blue Heeler, (NOT, as I so confidently asserted, a Kerry Blue....I KNEW there was Blue in there somewhere!) an Australian Cattle Dog. I phoned the lady because I couldn't find the name anywhere, and she told me (to set minds at rest) that her brother is a vet, and says that the constant itching is a symptom of a highly strung nature, as it only comes on when there are hikers!!!! Interesting hey??? (I didn't ask about the itching - she volunteered!!)
Kwaggas02.jpg, 105756 bytesThe other interesting thing was the big herds of bawling cattle....we have never heard such noisy cattle, (some even in soprano) and after a lot of ridiculous speculation we discovered that it was the mommies and babies having been recently separated....
And ANOTHER interesting thing is that the Ramwells got the dates wrong and pitched up the previous weekend!! Thats a first for us. However they made the best of it, slept over, and reappeared this weekend! Thats perseverance for you!
Anyway it was all undiluted pleasure because its the company that makes the hike. So thanks to all and see you next month.
Jenny
And then the rain came down. as we were departing.
